When the Covid-19 pandemic hit Uganda in 2020, the Ugandan government responded by shutting the country down. Stores were closed, transportation ceased to exist and to make things worse, it was the planting season and there were no crops to harvest. The majority of the people who live in and around the mountain village of Nangala live hand to mouth at best. The families are large and the employment opportunities are limited, so most families have no reserve to carry them through a disaster like the early Covid 19 pandemic.
When the response of the government of Uganda to Covid became clear, we realized that the people in the village were in danger of starvation. We contacted our ministry partner, Pastor Obed, and he had the same concern. A decision was made by Hope 4 the Children to take what money we had for construction and use it for emergency food aid. Our focus was specifically on the children, the widows and the elderly, as we felt they were the most vulnerable. Hope 4 the Children sent thousands of dollars to our ministry partner who was able to purchase truckloads of food and he delivered it to the people of Nangala accompanied by a military guard. The emergency food relief blessed many people in the village and Hope 4 the Children was blessed as well. After sending thousands of dollars to our ministry partner to purchase food for those in need, our bank account had almost the same balance as it did when we started. Hope 4 The Children has decided that emergency food relief will be part of our ongoing ministry in future emergencies.
