The vision for the transformation of the village of Nangala, Uganda, through the education of the children at a Christian school began with Pastor Obed Ndyamuba, of Kabale, Uganda. Pastor Obed was aware of the poverty, hopelessness and heavy alcohol addiction to alcohol in the village and he knew that Christian education for the children would be a powerful agent for change in the village.
The founder and treasurer of Hope 4 the Children, Bob Francis, met Pastor Obed at an evangelical crusade in Kigoma, Tanzania in 2013 and they agreed to meet the following year in Kabale, Uganda and to hold a small gospel crusade in Nangala the next year with the goal of winning many souls to Jesus through the gospel preached at the crusade and planting a church in the village. The gospel crusade in the village of Nangala in 2014 was a success and a few hundred people responded to the gospel and Pastor Obed rented a small building and hired a pastor for his church plant in Nangala. The church grew and in 2015, Pastor Obed rented another small building in the village for the school. At this point in time, Bob Francis and the founding families of Hope 4 the Children began to send monetary support for the school. Many of the parents of the students who attended the school were unable to pay for their children’s tuition, so a scholarship fund was established to allow the children to receive an education.
The number of students grew quickly and in 2016, Pastor Obed began searching for a property to purchase to build a church and school on. In 2017, the property that the school now stands on came up for sale and the founding families funded the purchase of the property as well as the construction of a temporary school and church. Once again the school grew and more teachers were hired and the need for a higher level of funding became obvious and we made the decision to form a corporation and to apply for a charitable organization status. We believe that what was accomplished by a few families in the village of Nangala is reproducible and the transformation of a culture living in poverty, starting with Christian education, is important if the cycle of poverty and addiction in poverty stricken areas is to be broken.
Hope 4 the Children was founded in April of 2019 and we began raising funds to support the educational of the student who attended New Covenant Christian School as well as the construction of a new permanent school that conformed to the comprehensive construction standards of the Department of Education of government of Uganda. As of February, 2023, we have completed construction on a three classroom Kindergarten building, a semi-modern restroom and a six classroom building that houses the P1-P6 classes. We have a staff of 12, including 9 teachers, a school administrator, a school accountant and a cook. We hope to begin construction of a building to house grade P7 and the school administration office, a teacher housing building as well as a soccer field/playground in 2023-24.
