Water Well

Why is a well necessary for New Covenant Christian School?

Until just recently, there was no electricity available in the village of Nangala. Because of the lack of electricity and the high cost of a deep well that will be necessary due to the area, the common method of gathering water involves funneling roof water into a plastic tank. This water is not only very dirty, but the plastic tanks are generally too small to gather enough water to catty an African family through the dry season. Once the tanks are dry, there are two options for water; one option is to purchase water that is delivered by truck that is too expensive for many of the villagers to purchase and the other is to dip water from a creek that is located in a deep valley. The land above the creek is agricultural and the people who live in this area have many farm animals. Animal waste is used for fertilizer and much of it is washed down into the creek where the people draw their water, whack as a terrible hazard to health. We are planning to install a well that will need to have a depth of 250 feet or more to reach the water. The water will be used for the school as well as for the people who live in the village. This will make New Covenant Christian School and the church located on the property a gathering area for the women of the village. They will not only receive the blessing of receiving fresh clean water, but they will also learn about Jesus, who is the Living Water, while they draw the water from the 10,000-liter storage tank. The cost of the well, the well controls, the storage tank, the maintenance fund and the building to house it all is estimated to cost is approximately $9,000.00 US.
